The tragic murder of Mukesh Chandrakar, a prominent investigative journalist from Chhattisgarh, has shocked the region. Mukesh’s body was discovered in a septic tank, and the investigation has unveiled disturbing details. Among the three individuals arrested for the crime is Ritesh Chandrakar, Mukesh’s cousin.
Mukesh, 28, was known for his fearless journalism and recent expose of corruption surrounding a Rs 120-crore road construction project connecting Gangalur to Hiroli in Bastar. Originally tendered for Rs 50 crore, the project’s cost escalated to Rs 120 crore, prompting Mukesh to investigate and reveal financial discrepancies. His findings led to an official inquiry, sparking anger among the contractor lobby.
The project, overseen by contractor Suresh Chandrakar, who remains at large, had become a source of tension. Ritesh, who is reportedly connected to Suresh, is said to have lured Mukesh to a meeting on January 1, after which Mukesh’s phone went offline. His brother, Yukesh Chandrakar, later reported him missing.
Two days later, Mukesh’s body was found in a septic tank at a property owned by Suresh Chandrakar in Chattanpara. The chilling details of this case are still under investigation, and authorities believe that the murder is linked to Mukesh’s recent journalistic work exposing corruption.
