EDWARDSVILLE — Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine announced that Chauncy D. Lucas Jr., 24, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Tyrone Williams.
The shooting occurred on May 10, 2023, near Rock Springs Drive in Alton. Police responded to reports of gunfire and found Williams, who was later pronounced dead at a St. Louis hospital.
“Our prayers remain with the family and loved ones of Tyrone Williams,” Haine said. “We hope this conviction and sentence bring some measure of closure.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Luke Yager and Gina McNabnay of the Violent Crimes Unit. Haine also commended the Alton Police Department for their thorough investigation, supported by the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services.
According to the investigation, Lucas believed Williams had stolen from him. Lucas traveled from Madison to Alton, confronted Williams outside a residence, and fired multiple shots. After the shooting, Lucas returned to Madison.
Investigators found a second handgun at the scene beside the victim. Additionally, a second defendant, Darryck T. Lewis, 25, of Glen Carbon, faces charges of obstructing justice for allegedly providing false information about his whereabouts on the day of the shooting. Lewis’s case is still pending.
