CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A Chattanooga man, Austin Hardin, has been arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder and possession of Fentanyl for resale in connection to the overdose death of a 26-year-old man, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
The incident began on April 17th, when HCSO Narcotics and Special Investigations Detectives responded to a Fentanyl-related death at a home on Sasha Lane. The victim, a 26-year-old male, was found deceased at the residence.
Investigative Breakthrough
As detectives conducted their investigation, they learned from a witness that the victim had been given a ride to the Super 8 Motel in Ooltewah, where he met another man and conducted a narcotics transaction.
Through a search warrant, detectives located Austin Hardin at the motel, where he was found in possession of Fentanyl. During an interview with authorities, Hardin admitted to selling Fentanyl to the victim, which directly led to the fatal overdose.
Arrests and Seizure
Hardin was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder and possession of Fentanyl for resale. Authorities seized approximately one ounce of Fentanyl, with an estimated street value of around $4,200.
In addition to Hardin’s arrest, Patrick Keenan, a second individual found in the room, was arrested and charged with possession of Fentanyl for resale and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Growing Concern Over Fentanyl in Chattanooga
This case underscores the growing concern over the opioid crisis, particularly the deadly impact of Fentanyl, a highly potent drug that continues to fuel overdose deaths across the country.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office continues to urge the public to stay vigilant in efforts to combat the distribution of dangerous narcotics and protect the community from the devastating effects of drug-related crimes.
