AMARILLO, Texas — A routine traffic stop on September 5 led to the arrest of Chase Fain, 37, in what authorities are calling a major methamphetamine trafficking case in Amarillo.
According to court documents, Fain — a known felon and drug trafficker — was being watched by agents from the Amarillo Police Department’s PACE unit and the DEA Amarillo Resident Office. Officers located Fain’s black Harley-Davidson motorcycle on S. Ong Street and began surveillance.
When Fain left the residence and failed to signal a lane change, officers conducted a traffic stop. He was initially arrested for operating a motorcycle without the proper endorsement.
During a search, officers discovered three plastic baggies containing a white crystalline substance in a backpack Fain was wearing. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine and had a gross weight of 5.5 pounds, with an estimated street value of $249,000, according to the DEA.
Officers also found a handgun — illegal for Fain to possess due to his felony status — and a large amount of cash in his pocket.
During questioning, Fain admitted to picking up 10 pounds of meth the previous night and stated he carried the firearm for protection because he had been shot at in the past.
Fain is now facing a federal charge of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, along with potential firearm violations due to his criminal history.
