MCADOO, Pa. — A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a violent armed robbery in Schuylkill County that left one person seriously injured.
According to Butler Township police, Chase Abbitt, originally from California, assaulted a man at JF Enterprises on Mile Hill Road in McAdoo on Wednesday, stealing a firearm during the attack. The victim’s condition has not been publicly updated, but officials say he suffered serious injuries.
After a community alert was issued by Kline Township Police, a citizen tip led authorities to Rittenhouse Place in Drums, where a person matching Abbitt’s description — including his backpack — was spotted sitting on a bench. Officers quickly detained him.
Investigators later confirmed that Abbitt was in possession of the stolen firearm. He was also found with a small amount of marijuana.
Abbitt was transported to Butler Township Police Headquarters, where he was charged with:
Receiving stolen property
Firearms not to be carried without a license
Possession of a small amount of marijuana
A district judge denied bail, stating Abbitt poses a danger to the community.
He is currently being held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility and is awaiting a preliminary hearing later this month.
