Charlotte Brandy Smith Charged With Husband’s Murder

Elizabethtown man shot, dies en route to hospital

A Bladen County woman has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of her husband. According to law enforcement, 45-year-old Charlotte Brandy Smith was charged with the murder of 42-year-old Aaron Daine Smith.

The Elizabethtown Police Department responded to a reported shooting on July 8 at a residence located at 307 Woodhouse Drive. Officers arrived to find Aaron Smith suffering from gunshot wounds. He died from his injuries while being transported to a nearby hospital.

Charlotte Smith was arrested the following day, July 9, during a traffic stop in southern Montgomery County. Authorities from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office stated they were acting on information received from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, which led them to her location.

Smith is currently being held at the Bladen County Detention Facility. The case is under active investigation by the Elizabethtown Police Department, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Authorities emphasized their continued commitment to a thorough and complete investigation.

Charlotte and Aaron Smith were reportedly married and previously owned Bladen Online before it was acquired by the Bladen Journal. Charlotte Smith also ran for a seat on the Bladen County Board of Education in 2022.
