Charleston Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle, Suspect Charged with Murder

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston County coroner has confirmed the identity of the man who tragically passed away after being intentionally hit by a vehicle last month.

Michael Cooper, 38, succumbed to blunt force injuries on December 4 at 12:42 p.m. at Trident Medical Center, after the collision that took place on November 27 at around 3:10 p.m. at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Hawthorne Drive. Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal described the incident as “an intentional auto-pedestrian collision.”

Upon responding to the scene, North Charleston Police discovered two men who had been shot, with one of the men also struck by a vehicle.

Authorities initially charged 25-year-old Jonathan Terraine Reid-Boyd with two counts of attempted murder related to the shooting. However, following Cooper’s death, one of the charges was upgraded to murder. As of Tuesday, Reid-Boyd now faces both a murder charge and one count of attempted murder.

Police believe Cooper was intentionally run over by a truck during the incident. Reid-Boyd had been arrested the day after the shooting and remains in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
