Charles Sims Sentenced to Life for Murder of La’Datra Williams

Sims Pleads Guilty, Receives Life Sentence in Vicksburg Case

by Sophia Bennett

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Miss. — Charles Sims, 57, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the killing of La’Datra Williams, a mother of four from Vicksburg. The sentencing took place on August 25 before Judge Brad Touchstone.

Williams had been missing for several months before her body was found in a shallow grave in Lawrence County in July. Sims led authorities to the burial site after several hours of questioning.

The case has sparked community speculation about Sims, including rumors of his involvement with a cult and claims that he fathered over 20 children.

Along with the life sentence, Sims was ordered to pay $10,000 in court fines, plus additional fees of $500 each to the District Attorney Investigative Fund, the Public Defender’s Reimbursement Fund, and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Fee.
