LAFAYETTE COUNTY, MS – A domestic disturbance in Lafayette County turned deadly on March 20, 2025, leading to the arrest of 76-year-old Charles Reifers on first-degree murder charges.
Authorities Respond to 911 Call
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to a domestic disturbance call around 11:30 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Heights Drive. When deputies arrived, they found 58-year-old Charlene Cook deceased.
Reifers, who was still at the scene, was taken into custody and formally charged with first-degree murder.
Sheriff’s Statement
Sheriff Joey East addressed the tragic incident, stating:
“The loss of life is always tragic, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time. I want to commend our deputies for their swift and professional response, which ensured the situation was brought under control without further incident.”
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not released details regarding a motive or the events leading up to the homicide. Reifers remains in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
