Charles Mack Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Steckie Black

JACKSON, Miss. – A man has been arrested in connection with the April shooting death of a 51-year-old Jackson resident.

On April 19, officers with the Jackson Police Department (JPD) responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Savannah Street just after midnight. The victim, identified as Steckie Black, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the incident followed a fight between Black and Charles Mack, 47, inside the home.

An arrest warrant was later issued for Mack, and on Thursday, JPD confirmed that he had been taken into custody.

Mack has been charged with murder and his bond was set at $1 million.

Authorities confirmed that Black’s next of kin has been notified, and the investigation is ongoing.
