Police in Bowling Green arrested Charles Hands III, 21, of Detroit, Michigan, on charges of receiving stolen property after locating a stolen vehicle on Monday morning.
Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Wooster Street in response to a stolen vehicle report. By 10:46 a.m., authorities located the vehicle in the 500 block of Conneaut Avenue, according to a report by the Bowling Green Police Division.
Upon approach, officers found Hands standing near the rear of the vehicle, between the driver’s side rear door and the open trunk.
According to the police report, Hands told officers that the car belonged to his brother, who had purchased it through Facebook Marketplace. He also claimed that his brother had been arrested the previous Sunday, and instructed him to take the car to prevent it from being towed.
Hands maintained that he was unaware the car had been reported stolen.
Despite the explanation, police impounded the vehicle and transported it to the city’s pole yard. Hands was arrested at the scene for receiving stolen property and was taken to jail.
