A Dillon man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to the armed robbery of a Verizon store on Broad River Road, officials announced Monday.

Charles Crib pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Feb. 25, to the robbery, and Circuit Court Judge Daniel Coble sentenced him to 20 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Authorities said Crib and a co-conspirator committed the robbery on Jan. 14, 2024, holding a Verizon employee at gunpoint and forcing them to the back of the store. While one suspect brandished a firearm, the other directed the employee to place about 40 cell phones into a bag.

Investigators reported that Crib knew a female accomplice who was inside the store before the robbery. Surveillance footage captured the license plates of vehicles used during the crime. One vehicle was registered to Crib’s friend, while the other was linked to a stolen car from North Carolina.

Cell tower records placed Crib in North Carolina at the time the vehicle was stolen and tracked him traveling from Dillon County to the Verizon store and back with the female accomplice.

The case was prosecuted by the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, with Senior Assistant Solicitor Kathryn Cavanaugh leading the prosecution.
