Changxuan Liu, 32, was taken into custody Thursday morning in Oceanside, New York, after allegedly attempting to defraud a 66-year-old woman of $22,500, the Nassau County Police Department reported.

Police said Liu contacted the woman Wednesday while she was seeking service for her Apple device, claiming her account had been compromised. He instructed her to withdraw $22,500 in cash to “fix” the account.

Before any money was withdrawn, the woman contacted authorities. Liu was intercepted while en route to pick up the cash and resisted arrest.

He has been charged with third-degree grand larceny and resisting arrest and was issued an appearance ticket for March 18.
