In a significant development in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested deputy mamlatdar Chandrasingh Mori amid a multi-crore land scam investigation. The arrest follows extensive questioning and coordinated searches across multiple locations.
Mori is scheduled to be presented before the Ahmedabad Rural Court on Thursday, where the ED will request a 14-day remand to continue its investigation.
ED teams from Maharashtra, Delhi, and Bengaluru conducted early morning raids on Tuesday, targeting residences and offices linked to several officials. These included Surendranagar District Collector Rajendra Patel, deputy mamlatdar Chandrasingh Mori, NA branch clerk Mayursingh Gohil, collector’s PA Jayrajsingh Jadeja in Lakhtar, and advocate D Chetan Kanzariya.
Sources indicate the ED probe stems from complaints about irregularities in land acquisition and conversion for non-agricultural (NA) purposes. The agency has meticulously scrutinized official documents as part of its investigation.
Further scrutiny included summoning ACB officers and a jeweller, hinting at potentially large financial transactions or asset transfers related to the case.
Interestingly, just three days before the ED raids, Collector Rajendra Patel abruptly dismantled the NA branch. Both Chandrasingh Mori and clerk Mayursingh Gohil were transferred immediately, prompting speculation about possible foreknowledge of the raids.
