In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics, the Chandrapur Local Crime Branch (LCB) arrested 37-year-old Wasim Imdad Khan from Mumbai after seizing 528 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs 26.4 lakh. The arrest took place during a planned trap near the HP petrol pump at Sakharwahi Phata on the Nagpur-Chandrapur National Highway.
Acting on intelligence inputs, police stopped the vehicle in which Wasim was traveling from Mumbai and found a plastic packet containing the white powder suspected to be Mephedrone. With a street value of Rs 5,000 per gram, the contraband’s total estimated worth stood at Rs 26.4 lakh.
Alongside the drugs, the police also confiscated a mobile phone, cash, and the vehicle itself, bringing the total seizure to Rs 35 lakh. Wasim has been charged under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Padoli police station and is currently in custody.
Data from Chandrapur district this year shows 157 NDPS cases filed against 192 accused, with drugs worth Rs 80 lakh seized. These cases include possession and sale of ganja, Mephedrone powder, and brown sugar, leading to multiple arrests and significant confiscations.
