WESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A report of stolen property led to the arrest of a Weston man, Chance Marple, who now faces charges of petit larceny and assaulting a police officer following a confrontation with law enforcement on May 15, 2025.

Corporal B.D. Hendershot of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department said officers responded to a theft report at the residence of Frankie Knight on US Highway Route 33 West. Knight reported that on or around May 12, two individuals — Chance Marple and Chase Wickline — broke a window on her 2007 Toyota Corolla and stole a black storage container filled with personal belongings.

The stolen items included a ThinkPad laptop, clothing, important documents like a marriage certificate, birth certificate, Social Security card, Nike and Chuck Taylor sneakers, and a pink North Face backpack, with a total estimated value of $600.

A witness confirmed seeing Marple and Wickline removing the container from the vehicle.

When officers arrived at Marple’s residence to serve arrest warrants, he attempted to flee and resisted arrest. Marple pulled away from officers and ignored commands before being restrained and handcuffed.

During the arrest, Marple allegedly spat on Corporal Hendershot.

Marple is now charged with petit larceny and assault on a law enforcement officer.
