GARLAND, Texas — After more than 14 years on the run, Cesar Pascual Orozco has been extradited from Mexico to the United States, where he now faces a murder charge in Dallas County.
Orozco is accused of fatally shooting Joe Castillo during a confrontation outside a residence in Garland, Texas, on March 14, 2009. Following the incident, Orozco fled to Mexico, prompting a years-long fugitive investigation led by the FBI’s Dallas field office.
He was indicted by a Dallas County Grand Jury and taken into custody upon arrival by the Garland Police Department. Orozco is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail.
“The extradition of Cesar Orozco demonstrates the FBI’s dedication to holding violent criminals accountable,” said R. Joseph Rothrock, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Dallas. He commended the joint efforts of law enforcement in securing Orozco’s return.
The extradition was made possible through cooperation between several agencies, including the Fiscala General de la República, Interpol Mexico, the U.S. Department of State, and the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs.
The Garland Police Department and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office are leading the ongoing murder investigation.
