Cedrick Simmons and Lizeida Reyes Arrested at Springfield Walmart for Theft, Firearm Possession
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Two suspects were arrested Friday afternoon at the Walmart on Boston Road after attempting to steal items through skip-scanning at a self-checkout register.
Around 1:15 p.m., Walmart Asset Protection alerted an on-site Springfield Police officer about suspicious activity at self-checkout. The suspects — Cedrick Simmons, 29, of Springfield, and Lizeida Reyes, 24, of Holyoke — were seen pretending to scan items without actually paying for them.
The officer stopped them as they attempted to leave the store and found about 14 unpaid items in their bags. A search of Simmons’ backpack revealed a loaded firearm, which had been reported stolen in Connecticut.
Simmons, a convicted felon with prior gun and drug offenses, also had an active arrest warrant. He faces multiple serious charges, including:
Carrying a Firearm Without a License (2nd Offense)
Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License (2nd Offense)
Possession of Ammunition Without an FID (Subsequent Offense)
Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Firearm Violation with Two Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
Receiving Stolen Property (under $1200)
Shoplifting by Asportation
Arrest Warrant Charges: Failure to Stop for Police, Reckless Driving, Operating with Suspended License, Speeding, No Inspection Sticker
Lizeida Reyes was charged with shoplifting by asportation.
Both suspects were taken into custody, and the firearm was seized as evidence.
