CHIVHU, ZIMBABWE – Ishmael Maukazuva, a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor for Chivhu Ward 12, has been arrested for allegedly forwarding a WhatsApp recording of a woman insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Maukazuva is currently detained at Chivhu Police Station and faces charges under Section 64B of the Data Protection Act.
Allegations Against Maukazuva
Authorities claim that Maukazuva forwarded the controversial video from one WhatsApp group to another. The recording allegedly features a woman using vulgar language against President Mnangagwa.
Maukazuva, who has denied any wrongdoing, is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

He is being represented by Paidamoyo Saurombe from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
The arrest has sparked concerns among human rights activists and opposition supporters, who argue that freedom of expression and digital rights are increasingly under threat in Zimbabwe.
