The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals, including a practicing doctor, in a major NEET-UG 2025 score manipulation racket in Maharashtra. The accused, Dr. Sandeep Jawahar Shah, allegedly collaborated with a person impersonating a National Testing Agency (NTA) official to facilitate admission for undeserving candidates into government medical colleges.
The investigation revealed that the accused collected payments as high as Rs90 lakh per candidate for tampering with NEET scores. Meetings with parents of aspiring medical students were held at a hotel in Parel, Mumbai, where financial terms were agreed upon.
On June 9, the CBI carried out a covert sting operation using decoy parents and independent observers, confirming the allegations and uncovering the extent of the scam.
In a related incident, the CBI registered an FIR against Vikash, a second-year MBBS student at Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Medical College in Sirohi, Rajasthan. Vikash allegedly impersonated Praveen Godara during the NEET-UG 2023 exam in Delhi, forging Godara’s signature on attendance and answer sheets to secure admission at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Noida.
These cases have raised serious questions about the integrity of India’s premier medical entrance examination, prompting a thorough investigation into possible wider networks facilitating such fraudulent activities.
