The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Shobhit Srivastava, a credit officer at the Bank of India’s Shahabad branch in Hardoi on Saturday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The case was registered on February 28, after it was reported that Srivastava had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 (10% of the loan amount) for processing a Rs 5 lakh loan under the Chief Minister’s Youth Employment Scheme.
Ramesh Chandra, the complainant, had applied for the loan in his wife Upasana Chandra’s name to set up a beauty parlour. Srivastava allegedly threatened to reject the application unless the bribe was paid.
The CBI set a trap and apprehended Srivastava while he was accepting the negotiated bribe of Rs 10,000. He was immediately arrested and will be presented before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, in Lucknow. The investigation is ongoing.
