Caydn Sylva, 18, Arrested After Shooting Girl During Vehicle Theft Attempt in Bexar County
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Authorities have arrested Caydn Sylva, 18, in connection with an April 22 shooting that injured a girl following an attempted vehicle burglary in the 23000 block of Fairway Bridge.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), a homeowner reported seeing two individuals near his car through surveillance footage. After confronting the suspects by yelling, they initially fled the scene.
However, the suspects returned shortly after. Deputies say Sylva fired multiple gunshots toward the home, striking the homeowner’s daughter in the leg. The homeowner administered a tourniquet before deputies arrived, and the girl is expected to recover.
Evidence linking Sylva to the shooting included surveillance footage and two abandoned vehicles found after a separate incident later that day. When interviewed, Sylva admitted to participating in car burglaries but denied shooting into the house. Investigators later secured video evidence placing him at the scene during the shooting.
Sylva has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. His bond has been set at $80,000, according to BCSO.
