FARGO, N.D. — C’Aundre Douglas, a 20-year-old from Jamestown, was arrested on Monday, August 4, and will be formally charged with the murder of 20-year-old Elijah Hughes, who was fatally shot outside the Westwood Estates apartment complex in Fargo early Sunday morning.
According to police, the shooting occurred just before 2:30 a.m. on August 3 and is believed to be part of an escalating feud between two groups. It was the second of two fatal shootings that night, both taking place within 30 minutes of each other.
Douglas was apprehended in Jamestown after he fled on foot from Fargo officers who pursued him there. He had also been wanted on charges related to a separate shooting on July 22 near Essentia Health in Fargo, where one man was injured.
Court documents from that earlier case state that Douglas allegedly fired a handgun and struck Othello Kolo, causing bodily harm. He faces two counts each of felony reckless endangerment and aggravated assault from that incident. Police said Douglas also fired at a group of people in a parking lot during the same event.
Additionally, authorities have now linked Douglas to a July 6 shooting in downtown Fargo, where shots were fired into a vehicle. Evidence recovered during his recent arrest helped tie him to that case.
Meanwhile, police are still searching for another suspect, Tyrque Jones, 20, of Fargo. Jones is wanted for the murder of 19-year-old Azeem Holmes, who was killed outside District 64 in downtown Fargo around 2 a.m. on August 3. Two other men were also injured in that shooting, one of whom remains in critical condition.
Jones has been charged with murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
A GoFundMe campaign to support Holmes’ family has been launched and has received several donations.
