In a major crackdown on organized cattle theft, police have booked three men under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) following their arrest in connection with a case near Thumbe, under Bantwal Rural police limits.
The incident occurred on August 14, when cattle were reported stolen. The remains were found the next day nearby, prompting police to file a case under multiple laws — including Section 303(2) of the BNS, Sections 4 and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, and Section 11(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The accused —
Irshad (34) of Ullal Chembugudde
Mohammad Mansoor (48) of Kudroli, Mangaluru
Abdul Azeem (18) of Kannur, Mangaluru
— were arrested on September 5 and remanded to judicial custody.
Police later linked the trio to another cattle theft case registered under Uppinangady police limits on September 4, under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the BNS, as well as Sections 4 and 5 of the Karnataka Cattle Act (2020).
On Saturday, Dakshina Kannada SP Arun K confirmed that the accused have now been formally booked under KCOCA, given the organized nature of their crimes.
