CASHMERE, Wash. — A 27-year-old man from Cashmere was arrested Wednesday in connection with the overdose death of a 26-year-old woman in East Wenatchee, according to court documents filed in Douglas County Superior Court.

Casey Strain was taken into custody at his home by the Columbia River Drug Task Force and East Wenatchee Police Department. He was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center and faces charges of:

Controlled substances homicide

Delivery of a controlled substance

Using a building for drug purposes

The woman was found dead around 8:40 a.m. on December 3 at her residence on the 1200 block of Eastmont Avenue. Officers at the scene recovered drug-related items, including a “tooter” (a device used to smoke narcotics), a lighter, vape pen, baggie with white powder, and two cell phones.

Investigators uncovered text messages between Strain and the victim on December 2, detailing plans to meet for a drug transaction. The messages also revealed Strain expressed concern that she might overdose, according to court filings.

The case remains under investigation, and Douglas County prosecutors are reviewing charges.
