Caroll Hopkinson Charged with Husband’s Murder in Taperoo

South Australian Nurse Arrested After Husband's Death

by Amelia Crawford

A South Australian mental health nurse, Caroll Hopkinson, 58, has been charged with the murder of her husband, Simon Hopkinson, 60, after he was found dead at their home in Taperoo on Sunday morning.

Police were called to the couple’s Medina Street address around 8:40 am, where they discovered Simon Hopkinson’s body. The nurse reportedly called emergency services herself, seeking help, but authorities quickly arrested her when they arrived at the scene.

According to neighbors, Caroll Hopkinson was seen sitting in her nightgown at the front of the house, appearing “nonchalant” before the police arrived to arrest her. Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of Simon Hopkinson’s death.

Hopkinson, a nurse with over 20 years of experience in mental health, has shocked those who knew the couple. Residents described the Hopkinsons as “lovely” but noted they kept mostly to themselves, with one neighbor mentioning, “I never saw them together; they were always pretty separate.”

Caroll Hopkinson appeared before Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday. Prosecutors stated they would require 20 weeks to process the evidence related to the case. Hopkinson did not apply for bail, and she will appear again in court in November.

This shocking incident has left the Taperoo community in disbelief, with neighbors expressing their surprise and concern following the tragic events.
