WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) – A Darien woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing over $9,000 worth of merchandise from the Mitchells store at 670 Post Road East in Westport.
Caroline Montanus, 37, was arrested Friday at the Greenwich Police Department and then transferred to Westport police custody. She was charged with third-degree larceny in connection with the March 14 theft.
According to investigators, Montanus took several high-value items into a dressing room and quickly exited the store. Staff later discovered removed security tags left behind on the dressing room floor.
Police said the investigation also uncovered similar incidents at another Mitchells location in a nearby town.
Montanus was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on May 23.
