WESLACO, TX – A dramatic high-speed pursuit unfolded this morning as 18-year-old Carla Miranda Delgado was arrested following a police chase involving a stolen Jeep, authorities confirmed. The incident has brought renewed focus to a surge in vehicle thefts across South Texas, particularly involving Jeeps stolen from Brownsville.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Delgado fled from troopers after they attempted to stop the stolen vehicle. The chase quickly escalated, with helicopters and multiple state troopers converging on the scene.
“I was drinking my morning coffee and suddenly heard the choppers,” said one local eyewitness. “Then came five or six state troopers, and one of them cut off a Jeep. It was intense.”
The pursuit ended when officers successfully intercepted the Jeep on the highway and took Delgado into custody.
DPS Sgt. Maria Hernandez confirmed that Delgado faces several charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest with a vehicle, and resisting arrest. She is currently being held at the Hidalgo County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
Authorities are investigating a possible link between Delgado’s case and other recent Jeep thefts reported in Brownsville, suggesting a pattern of organized vehicle thefts in the region.
Local law enforcement agencies are urging residents to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures as this trend continues to rise.
