In a disturbing case of betrayal, a caretaker hired to look after an elderly woman in Kammanahalli allegedly stole gold jewellery worth nearly Rs31 lakh. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Banaswadi police station, leaving the victim’s family deeply shaken.
The accused, identified as Chandini (name changed), is a native of Bihar and had been working as a caretaker for the past two years. She was employed through an agency to care for the elderly woman, whose children live and work abroad. Over time, Chandini reportedly misused the trust placed in her.
Family members and relatives frequently visited the house and often left behind valuable gold jewellery for safekeeping. Taking advantage of her access and responsibility, Chandini allegedly stole the ornaments without raising suspicion.
Following a complaint, the Banaswadi police swiftly took Chandini into custody. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to the crime. Police later recovered the stolen gold jewellery from her possession.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of senior citizens living alone and the importance of thoroughly verifying the background of caretakers. Authorities have urged families to exercise caution and take preventive measures when hiring domestic help to ensure the security of elderly loved ones and their valuables.
