CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – A Cape Girardeau man charged in a violent 2023 rape case now faces new accusations, including conspiracy to commit murder.

According to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office, on January 10, an investigation was launched into a conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities learned that 42-year-old Adam R. Kerr, who was incarcerated at the time, had been plotting with others to have someone killed in order to secure his release.

The sheriff’s office uncovered that Kerr had offered financial compensation to an individual to carry out the crime. Further investigation revealed audio recordings where Kerr detailed his plan, which involved killing an unnamed person using fentanyl and staging it as an accidental overdose.

As a result, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed a new felony charge of first-degree assault against Kerr. He is currently being held without bond in the Stoddard County Jail.

Kerr was arrested in October 2023 on nine felony counts, including rape, sodomy, and armed criminal action. Online court records show that Kerr has a case review for these charges scheduled for February 4.
