NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) – A Louisiana woman is facing felony charges after allegedly fraudulently receiving Medicaid benefits while operating businesses that generated over $9.5 million in revenue.
Candace Taylor, 35, of Slidell, was arrested Monday by agents with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, according to the state Attorney General’s Office.
The investigation began after the Louisiana Department of Health filed a complaint alleging that Taylor had committed Medicaid recipient fraud by underreporting her income. Records show she applied for Medicaid in May 2019 under the alias Candace Sailor, falsely claiming a bi-weekly income of $1,900 with no dependents. That application was denied, but she reapplied within a year using inconsistent information.
Between 2020 and 2024, Taylor is accused of repeatedly misrepresenting her financial status to receive Medicaid benefits. Despite claiming little or no income, investigators uncovered substantial financial activity, including:
$480,000+ in deposits in 2020 alone
$45,000 in Audi vehicle payments
Multiple six-figure cashier’s checks for property purchases
Cosmetic surgery and luxury jewelry
A $13,000 payment toward a 2022 Lamborghini Urus
A $100,000 wire transfer to an exotic car dealership
Just two months after purchasing the Lamborghini in 2024, Taylor allegedly reapplied for Medicaid, stating an income of only $2,000 per month and failing to disclose ownership of any businesses.
Agents also reviewed Taylor’s Facebook and Instagram posts, which showcased her extravagant lifestyle and luxury purchases.
Following the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for one count of government benefits fraud. Taylor was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Monday. Authorities confirmed the investigation remains ongoing.
