A Birmingham teenager has been sentenced to prison after carrying out a series of unprovoked attacks on men in the city centre.
Callum Bennett, 18, was jailed for five years in a young offender institution after pleading guilty to multiple assaults. The court heard that the attacks took place over several weeks and left three victims seriously injured.
The first incident occurred on New Year’s Day at a bar on Broad Street, where Bennett approached a man and punched him in the face without warning, causing a broken jaw.
A second attack followed on 25 January at the same venue. After starting a conversation with another man who attempted to walk away, Bennett followed him and struck him repeatedly to the head.
The most serious assault took place on 23 February, when Bennett followed a man towards a hotel in Birmingham city centre and punched him from behind. The victim was left with life-changing injuries.
PC Katie Petherick, from Birmingham Police, described Bennett as a dangerous individual who carried out violent attacks without provocation. She praised the investigative work that led to his identification in all three cases and said it was right he had been brought to justice.
