CALHOUN COUNTY, MI — The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrested two men following a week-long investigation targeting human trafficking and child exploitation.

The suspects, Stephen Allen Mayne, 45, of Savannah, Georgia, and Daniel Joseph Styler, 58, of Battle Creek, face charges including accosting a child for immoral purposes and using the internet to commit a crime.

The arrests come after a focused operation aimed at protecting vulnerable children in the community. Sheriff Steve Hinkley emphasized the department’s dedication to child safety:

“The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community—our children. If you come after our children, we’re coming after you.”

Hinkley also urged parents to be cautious with children’s social media use, saying,

“Social media can be a dangerous place. Have conversations with your children. Monitor their activity, trust but verify, and always keep the lines of communication open. Awareness and education are critical tools in protecting our youth.”

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Albion Department of Public Safety, Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police, Southwest Enforcement Team, Marshall Police Department, Michigan State Police, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Pignataro at CCSO or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Observer.
