A 19-year-old man from Homosassa, Caleb Wayne Trantham, was arrested on February 1 after allegedly strangling his twin sister during a domestic argument, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Deputies responded to a 911 call from the residence in Homosassa, where a man, later identified as Trantham, was heard shouting in the background. Upon their arrival, officers found the victim — Trantham’s twin sister — outside, visibly distressed with red marks around her neck.
The siblings’ mother, who was present, provided a statement confirming the altercation. Trantham told authorities the disagreement started over his mother’s medical marijuana use, escalating when his sister pushed him away while seated on a bed. In response, Trantham admitted to pinning her down, turning her so her back faced him, and strangling her with both hands. He claimed he “blacked out” in a fit of rage during the confrontation.
The victim told deputies that she pushed Trantham because he was standing over her and yelling profanities. She said she couldn’t breathe and estimated the strangling lasted around 30 seconds. She also bit Trantham’s arm in an attempt to escape. Deputies later observed a red mark on his arm, consistent with her account.
Their mother corroborated both of their statements, saying she called 911 when her daughter’s face began turning purple. She was advised to leave the room by dispatch due to the chaotic situation.
Based on the statements from all parties involved, as well as Trantham’s confession, he was arrested and charged with domestic violence-related offenses. As per protocol for such cases, Trantham was initially held without bond.
