Cachar Police conducted a major drug bust near Ghungoor Bypass on Silchar-Aizawl Road, intercepting a vehicle and seizing 20,000 Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs6 crore. The crackdown led to the arrest of two accused: Injamul Hoque Laskar (24) from Kabuganj, Sonai, and Hussain Ahmed Borbhuyan from Bagha, Dholai.

Acting on a specific intelligence tip, the Silchar Police stopped vehicle AS01 FZ/4421 in the early morning hours. Upon inspection, the tablets were found concealed in specially modified compartments. Preliminary tests confirmed the drugs as methamphetamine, commonly known as Yaba—a potent stimulant illegally trafficked in the region.

Officials suspect the consignment originated from Aizawl, Mizoram, destined for distribution within Cachar, indicating a larger cross-border trafficking network. Cachar SSP Numal Mahatta praised the police team’s efforts and confirmed an ongoing investigation to dismantle the drug supply chain.

This seizure marks one of the largest drug busts in Cachar recently, underscoring the pressing need for vigilant enforcement against narcotics trafficking.
