On Monday, Buxar police arrested two key accused in a cyberfraud case involving a fake PM-Kisan Yojana mobile application. The operation led to the recovery of Rs 4.9 lakh and four cellphones allegedly used in the scam.

The case surfaced when Yusuf Ansari, a resident of Buxar, lodged a complaint on July 26. He reported receiving a link to download a file related to the PM-Kisan Yojana via a WhatsApp group. After clicking the link and attempting to register, his cellphone network was deactivated, and both his SIM card and Aadhaar number were blocked.

Although Ansari managed to restore his Aadhaar details, he discovered on July 13 that Rs 5,48,887 had been fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account.

Following his complaint, a case (cyber police station case no. 40/25) was registered at the Buxar cyber police station. SP Buxar quickly formed a special investigation team (SIT) under DSP (cyber) Avinash Kumar Kashyap’s supervision.

The SIT traced the cyberfraud network to Deoghar district in Jharkhand. Coordinated raids in Sirsia village under Devipur police station led to the arrest of two accused: Manoj Das, son of Shitlal Das, and Subhash Das, son of Madan Das. Police seized Rs 4.9 lakh in cash and four mobile phones from them.

During interrogation, both suspects confessed their involvement and revealed names of other gang members. Police are conducting further raids to apprehend the remaining accomplices.
