Bunnell, Fla. – A minor traffic accident on May 5 escalated into a robbery when Jason Bass, 36, of Bunnell, allegedly threatened the other driver, demanded money, and pursued the victim across town. Bass is now facing several charges, including robbery, burglary, and possession of an open container.
Around 12:05 p.m., police responded to a disturbance near North Pine Street after a crash at West Woodland and North State Street. Bass reportedly exited his vehicle and demanded $1,500 from the victim to cover cosmetic damage. When the victim didn’t comply, Bass threatened, “I’m going to beat your a**.”
Fearful for his safety, the victim handed over $463 in cash. Bass then allegedly ordered the victim to go to a bank for more money and followed him. When the victim attempted to flee, Bass reportedly tried to force open the locked truck door and banged on the window.
Bass was intercepted near the Flagler County Courthouse by officers from both the Bunnell Police Department and Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Upon searching his vehicle, officers found two handguns and an open can of beer. Bass reportedly told police, “Sometimes you have to drink,” and admitted to attempting to open the victim’s door. However, he claimed the money was given voluntarily.
Bass was arrested and taken to the Flagler County Inmate Facility, where he faces charges of robbery, burglary, petit theft, and possession of an open container in a vehicle. His bond has been set at $13,000.
