Buna Man Christopher Stimits Arrested for Electricity Theft

Suspect charged after stealing nearly $1,500 in electricity

by Amelia Crawford

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of 39-year-old Christopher Glen Stimits from Buna for stealing electricity.

The investigation began on June 18 after the Jasper-Newton Electric Co-Op detected tampering with two electric meters. Deputies traced the tampering to Stimits, who had removed the original meters at his residence and at his former girlfriend’s home, replacing them with stolen meters to avoid paying for electricity.

Authorities estimate that Stimits stole nearly $1,500 worth of electricity.

He was arrested on Tuesday and charged with Theft of Service.
