Buffalo Man Sentenced to Over 14 Years for Fatal Drug Overdose
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Darryl Sweat, a 32-year-old Buffalo resident, was sentenced Thursday to more than 14 years in prison for his role in selling drugs that resulted in a fatal overdose in 2022.
Sweat will serve a total of 170 months behind bars after being convicted of distributing cocaine, fentanyl, and para-fluorofentanyl. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Sweat sold cocaine to a regular customer, identified as V.O., on April 18, 2022. Two days later, the customer was discovered dead at their residence. An autopsy determined the cause of death as acute mixed drug intoxication, including cocaine, fentanyl, para-fluorofentanyl, and tramadol.
The investigation into Sweat’s activities began in May 2022, when undercover officers made two separate controlled cocaine purchases from him. Sweat’s conviction is a part of the ongoing effort to combat the deadly opioid crisis affecting communities across the U.S.
