MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — A 61-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a bank robbery that occurred over the weekend on South Main Street, police confirmed Wednesday.
According to the Middletown Police Department, Bruce Vaughan has been charged with:
First-degree robbery
Third-degree larceny
Second-degree threatening
Police said the robbery took place at Liberty Bank on the 400 block of South Main Street around 9:19 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses told officers that a white male entered the bank, implied he had a weapon, and demanded money.
Employees complied, and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Detectives from the Major Investigations Unit quickly identified Vaughan as the sole suspect.
Investigators later tracked Vaughan to a hotel in Meriden, where officers from both Middletown and Meriden police negotiated with him from around 1:30 a.m. until 8 a.m. Wednesday. Vaughan eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
In addition to the robbery-related charges, police said Vaughan faces two counts of violating probation and is being held on a $225,000 bond.
Authorities noted that Vaughan has two prior robbery convictions and was on probation at the time of the latest incident. He is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Thursday.
