PARK RIDGE, N.J. — A Bergen County man has been arrested and charged in connection with a voter fraud scheme that spanned four years, authorities announced Tuesday.

Bruce E. Behringer, 69, of Park Ridge, was taken into custody on May 27, 2025, following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit. The inquiry began after the Bergen County Board of Elections detected potential voting irregularities earlier this year.

According to Prosecutor Mark Musella, between September 2020 and November 2024, Behringer allegedly submitted one fraudulent voter registration application and three mail-in ballots using another individual’s identity.

As a result, Behringer faces multiple third-degree charges under New Jersey law:

Tampering with public records

False registration

Attempting to cast an illegal vote

Behringer was processed and released, pending his first court appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

The case is being led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
