VALLEY CITY, N.D. (Valley News Live) — Brook Rufsvold, a Valley City woman, is facing three counts of exploitation of an eligible adult after allegedly stealing money from clients at the Open Door Center, where she was employed.

According to court documents, a fellow employee noticed discrepancies in three client accounts totaling $1,500. When questioned, Rufsvold reportedly provided a written confession admitting to the theft.

The coworker turned over the confession to law enforcement. During police questioning, Rufsvold allegedly confirmed the confession and stated that her actions were driven by a compulsive gambling addiction.

She also told officers that she asked for the stolen funds to be deducted from her final paycheck and returned to the affected clients.

Rufsvold is scheduled to appear in court on September 9.
