Broncos linebackers coach Michael Wilhoite was arrested on Sunday evening after being accused of assaulting a police officer. Wilhoite, 38, was taken to the Denver downtown jail on charges of second-degree assault on an officer and is set to appear in Denver County court on Monday morning, according to Mike Klis of KUSA.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, with no further information released at this time. The Broncos organization issued a brief statement acknowledging the arrest.
“We are aware of the situation involving Michael Wilhoite that occurred Sunday and are in the process of gathering more information,” the statement read.
Wilhoite, who was undrafted out of Division II Washburn in 2011, began his professional career in the United Football League. His performances there earned him a spot in the NFL, where he played as a linebacker for the 49ers and Seahawks. After his playing career, Wilhoite joined Sean Payton’s coaching staff with the Saints from 2019 to 2020. He then spent two years as the Chargers’ linebackers coach before rejoining Payton in 2023 with the Broncos.
