In a major move under Operation Mahakal, the Kanpur Police arrested Brijendra Singh Chauhan, Managing Director of BACAL Real Estate, along with three accomplices for allegedly defrauding a retired man of Rs14 lakh in a fake land deal.
According to an FIR filed by Ramakant Mishra (73), a retired employee of Panki Power House and a resident of Panki C Block, he and his daughter, Kanchan Dixit, were misled into purchasing a plot from Brijendra Singh.
On December 31, 2020, the accused promised to sell them a 405-yard plot and showed another 200-yard plot. The family paid ₹10 lakh on January 1, 2021, followed by an additional Rs4 lakh.
Despite several follow-ups, the plot was never registered, and only Rs9 lakh was returned.
When Mishra’s family demanded the remaining Rs5 lakh, Brijendra and his associates—Vishnu Singh, Jitendra Singh, and Himanshu Dixit—threatened them with death, saying:
“Forget about the plot or face dire consequences.”
DCP (West) Dinesh Tripathi confirmed the arrest of all four accused late Friday night. The case is being further investigated to identify if other victims were defrauded in similar fashion by BACAL Real Estate.
This incident adds to a growing list of real estate scams targeting the elderly and highlights the importance of verifying land transactions through legal channels.
