GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. — Briana Renea Hunt Simmons, 35, was arrested and charged with food stamp fraud involving the fraudulent acquisition or use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits valued at $10,000 or more.

According to the South Carolina Department of Social Services, Simmons fraudulently received an overpayment of $56,762 in SNAP benefits from November 2019 to May 2024. This was based on false information provided in her application forms.

The arrest warrant states that Simmons intentionally omitted her cohabiting husband and his income from eight submitted SNAP applications, contributing to the overpayment.

Simmons was apprehended by Special Agents from the South Carolina Department of Social Services and the Office of Inspector General. She was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center and held on a $5,000 bond.
