SOUTHPORT, N.Y. – A Towanda man is facing a felony charge after allegedly trying to purchase two motorcycles with a bad check in July 2023.
Brian J. Rought, 48, was arrested and charged with attempted grand larceny in the third degree, a Class E felony, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on July 12, 2023, at Glider City Cycles in Southport. Deputies responded to a report of a possible theft around 9:48 a.m., and an investigation revealed that Rought had attempted to buy two motorcycles totaling $11,388.
However, officials say Rought paid with a check linked to an account that only had $1.73, leading the check to bounce.
Following an investigation and after Rought’s release from Pennsylvania State Prison, he was arrested on the charge and issued an appearance ticket to return to Southport Town Court at a later date.
