BROCKTON, MA (WBSM) – A Bridgewater couple has pleaded not guilty to allegations that they stole nearly $18,000 raised through a GoFundMe campaign that was supposed to help an unhoused man named “Greg.”

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced that Brian G. Ferreira, 33, and Rachel Kadis, 31, were arraigned in Brockton District Court on charges of larceny over $1,200 by false pretenses, embezzlement, and conspiracy.

The charges stem from a report filed on June 7, when Greg informed Bridgewater Police that the couple was raising money in his name but refusing to provide him with the funds. The GoFundMe campaign, titled “Support Greg’s Journey to Stability,” was created by Kadis on March 11 and raised approximately $17,800.

Investigators say the couple kept the donations in a personal account, and Greg never received any financial support. He sadly passed away on July 1 without receiving the funds.

On June 29, Bridgewater Police filed criminal complaints against Ferreira and Kadis.

The couple was released on personal recognizance with conditions:

Surrender their passports

Refrain from any fundraising activities

Avoid GoFundMe and other fundraising websites

They are scheduled to return to court on October 9.
