Brian Barrett Arrested in Opelika Abuse Case

Lee County man faces multiple sexual assault charges

An Opelika man has been arrested on multiple charges, including rape and sodomy, following an investigation into the alleged abuse of his wife, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators said the case began on February 17, 2026, after a report was filed alleging that Brian Scott Barrett, 53, had been sexually, physically, and mentally abusing his wife. Evidence indicated the abuse had been ongoing for several years.

The alleged crimes occurred on Lee Road 414 in the Beauregard community of Opelika.

On February 24, 2026, Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested Barrett at his workplace in Lanett, Alabama.

Barrett faces the following charges:

One count of rape in the first degree
One count of sodomy in the first degree
One count of sexual abuse in the first degree
One count of domestic violence in the third degree

Authorities said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

Following an Aniah’s Law hearing, Barrett posted a $120,000 bond and was released from the Lee County Detention Center on February 26, 2026.
