Dubai, UAE – William Pereira Rugato, a 34-year-old Brazilian citizen, was arrested upon his arrival in the United Arab Emirates from a European country. Rugato is accused of manipulating football match results in Brazil, profiting illegally by placing wagers on international sports betting platforms.
Rugato had been under surveillance and was listed on INTERPOL’s Red Notice as part of a global manhunt. His arrest is the result of collaborative efforts between Dubai Police and international law enforcement agencies, aimed at cracking down on illegal activities, particularly match-fixing and sports-related crimes.
Colonel Tariq Sultan Hilal Al Suwaidi, Director of the Wanted Persons Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, emphasized Dubai Police’s commitment to international cooperation. He stated that the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the UAE’s security and ensure that the country remains free from illegal activities connected to foreign nationals.
“Dubai Police is determined to uphold the rule of law and foster a collaborative security framework that benefits not only the UAE but other nations as well,” said Colonel Al Suwaidi. The police force is focused on enhancing global security through the sharing of successful law enforcement practices and expertise.
