INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man faces multiple drunk driving charges following a fatal crash in downtown Indianapolis early Saturday morning.
The victim, identified Monday as 31-year-old Aaron Radford, was a passenger in a black GMC Yukon involved in the accident.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday to a serious crash at the intersection of North East and East Ohio streets.
Two vehicles were involved: a red Dodge Charger and the Yukon. Radford was ejected from the Yukon during the collision and was pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital.
Investigators reported the crash occurred when the Charger, traveling east on Ohio Street, collided with the Yukon, which was heading southbound on East Street. The Yukon then veered off the road, striking a utility pole, while the Charger crashed into a nearby building.
Both drivers were taken to hospitals for blood draws, as is standard procedure in fatal crashes in Indiana.
The driver of the Charger, 26-year-old Brayan Camacho Calleja, was arrested on three preliminary drunk driving charges and one charge of driving without ever receiving a driver’s license.
According to jail records, Calleja is scheduled for a court hearing Tuesday morning. Bond information has not yet been released.
